UGC designs degree courses in plumbing and carpentry

Coimbatore, October 21: The University Grants Commission (UGC) has proposed a new degree course in vocational studies (B.Voc) from the coming academic year. The course is aimed at giving training in jobs like plumbing, carpentry and other vocation skills. The course is mainly be targeted at people who have discontinued their education after clearing Class 12 examination and want to obtain a degree in a vocation or a trade they practice. UGC vice-chairman, H Devaraj, who was in Coimbatore said the Commission has approved the degree and, polytechnic colleges and universities can start the course from the coming academic year.
